Net als elk ander land kent Colombia een grote hoeveelheid aan mooie boutique hotels. Voor zowel werk als privé bezocht ik Colombia tientallen keren en verbleef ik op talloze plekken. Wanneer ik privé reis, ga ik zoveel mogelijk op zoek naar de meest mooie, bijzondere en unieke overnachtingslocaties. Naast prijs-kwaliteit verhouding zijn sfeer, stijl, inrichting, comfort en ligging (vaak in de natuur) voor mij belangrijke elementen voor het kiezen van een hotel. Maar ook word ik blij van een goed doel wat ergens aan is gekoppeld. Ik doe dan ook uitgebreid research alvorens ik ergens een hotel boek. In het hart van de Risaralda vallei, ligt Sazagua Boutique Hotel, een prachtige plek om te verblijven, met veel oog voor design, service en detail. Hier kom je volledig tot rust in je eigen paradijsje en ben je binnen no-time op de mooiste plekken in de koffieregio. Sazagua Boutique Hotel ligt in een tropische tuin, met bloemen, vlinders en kolibries. De voormalige finca is omgetoverd tot boutique hotel met 18 compleet verschillende kamers, verspreid over een hoofdgebouw en een aantal lodges op het terrein.
Elke kamer in Sazagua Boutique Hotel is uniek, ontworpen door de Colombiaanse architect Marcelo Villegas, die bekend staat om zijn designs met guadua (een bamboesoort). Alle kamers in Sazagua zijn bijzonder, maar de allermooiste is voor mij toch wel de Masinga Lodge. Masinga Lodge bestaat uit meerdere huisjes: Een slaapkamer, een woonkamer, een turks stoombad en een entree met twee badkamers. De lodge wordt omringd door machtige junglebomen en water met karpers erin. Een hoogtepunt is de privé jacuzzi, die in de avond ook nog eens is verlicht. Geloof me, deze kamer wil je nooit meer verlaten.

Er is een spa waar je terecht kunt voor traditionele behandelingen, een fijn zwembad en een restaurant waar je geniet van high-end gerechten. En in de avond is het terrein sprookjesachtig verlicht! Sazagua Boutique Hotel, ligt op 10 kilometer vanaf de luchthaven Pereira in Colombia. Een perfecte plek om de mooie koffiedriehoek, met koffieplantages en leuke koffiedorpjes als Salento en Filandia te verkennen.

El Nido del Condor is een ecolodge, gelegen op een berg tussen twee kloven in de koffiedriehoek van Colombia. Het wordt daarom ook wel het eiland in de bergen genoemd. Bijzonder is dat deze plek alleen per kabelbaan te bereiken is. Vanaf de weg, waar je je auto achterlaat, betreed je een kleine gondola die je binnen 12 minuten naar de overkant brengt.
El Nido del Condor is zo onbeschrijfelijk mooi dat er bijna geen woorden voor te vinden zijn. De ligging op een berg, volledig omringd door plantages, bloemen en vogels, de high-end architectuur, de vele details en dan de waanzinnige uitzichten, maken dit een plek die je alleen in je dromen tegenkomt. En als je denkt dat het niet mooier kan, vliegen er ook nog eens condors boven je hoofd..
El Nido del Condor hotel in Colombia heeft 5 kamers van 72m2 groot. En aan alles zie je dat de eigenaar, Jaime Botero, een architect is. De kamer, in de vorm van een tent, is met kwalitatieve materialen ingericht en overal is over nagedacht. De kleuren zijn rustgevend en zelfs de meest nietszeggende hotelkamer elementen zijn hier mooi. Er staat een groot bed, van waaruit je prachtig uitzicht op de canyon hebt. Op het idyllische balkonnetje neem je plaats en kijk je uit over de omgeving. En terwijl je doucht heb je door het het open raam zicht op de vallei.
In het restaurant staat een team aan chefs de hele dag in de keuken om dagelijks drie meergangen menu’s te bereiden. En deze maaltijden zijn inclusief bij je verblijf. Super fijn.
Ook kun je vanuit El Nido del Condor verschillende wandelingen in de omgeving maken en condors spotten. Zorg dat je voldoende tijd in je reisschema opneemt want El Nido del Condor is een plek om nooit meer te vergeten.

Hacienda Bambusa, gelegen in de koffiedriehoek, is een plek die zo uit een Colombiaanse soapserie komt! Deze traditionele finca, gelegen op een grote cacao- en avocadoplantage, is omgetoverd tot luxe boutique hotel waar je de fijne sfeer van de koffieregio ervaart.

Ben je op zoek naar een mooi hotel aan het strand? Dan wil je overnachten bij Playa Koralia, een boho-chic hotel, gelegen aan de Caribische kust van Colombia, aan de voet van het magische Sierra Nevada gebergte. Je vindt hier luxe en eenvoud tegelijkertijd, omdat alles hier volledig om de connectie met de natuur draait. Luxe op blote voeten, zoals ze het zelf omschrijven. Zonder zweverig te worden, kom je hier door de mooie omgeving en rust, zonder prikkels, even helemaal tot jezelf.

Playa Koralia begeeft zich op een groot strand omgeven door groen. In het restaurant wat omringd wordt door dromenvangers worden de meest heerlijke gerechten geserveerd. Niet zomaar een gerecht maar een culinair driegangenmenu met verse en lokale tropische producten uit eigen tuin. Ook is er is een bar, yoga ruimte en een spa waarbij je in de jungle door middel van inheemse technieken en geuren een ontspannende tijd tegemoet gaat.
De omgeving rondom Koralia nodigt uit voor de meest mooie tochten. Zo kun je wandelen in de Sierra Nevada, in watervallen zwemmen, je op inheems grondgebied begeven, vogels spotten, tuben op de rivier of een bezoek brengen aan Tayrona nationaal park. Playa Koralia ligt vlakbij Buritaca, op ongeveer een uur rijden van Santa Marta en is een van de mooiste duurzame boutique hotels in deze regio van Colombia.

Houd je van rust, natuur en vogels? Dan wil je overnachten in Awatawaa Ecolodge in de provincie La Guajira. Awatawaa Ecolodge bevindt zich op een klein schiereiland, met aan de ene kant de Caribische Zee en aan de andere kant de Cienaga de Mababita, een lagune waar talloze vogelsoorten verzamelen vanwege de grote hoeveelheid vis. Vanuit je bungalow loop je zo de zee in terwijl je wordt omringd door pelikanen, reigers, ibissen en krabbetjes die over het strand lopen.
Awatawaa Ecolodge heeft 6 bungalows, allemaal direct op het strand gelegen. De huisjes zijn van hout gemaakt en hebben een fijn terras waar je neer kunt ploffen in een van de lekkere zitzakken of stoeltjes. De bedden zijn fijn en de badkamer is ruim en buiten. Houd er rekening mee dat er geen licht is (wel electriciteit) dus in de avond moet je met kaarsen en zaklampen te werk gaan. Iets dat wat mij betreft bijdraagt aan de ervaring.

Het lieve team van Awatawaa Ecolodge maakt dagelijks drie lekkere maaltijden voor je klaar, die inclusief zijn. Alle maaltijden worden geserveerd aan tafeltjes op het strand. En in de avond is alles mooi verlicht met fakkels.
Je kunt rondom Awatawaa eindeloos vogels spotten en van de natuur genieten. Maar ook kun je op pad in La Guajira, een interessante provincie met nationale parken en inheemse gemeenschappen. Dit boutique hotel staat in de Condé Nast lijst van mooiste hotels in Colombia en dat is niet voor niets. Je begeeft je hier diep in de jungle, omringd door de meest prachtige natuur en toch verblijf je hier op zeer comfortabele wijze in mooie cabana’s. Vanuit Calanoa kun je verschillende excursies ondernemen, die je de jungle in haar mooiste vorm doen beleven.
Calanoa heeft 7 kamers die met natuurlijke materialen door kunstenaar Diego Stamper zijn ingericht. Zelf verbleef ik in de master cabaña, bestaande uit drie verdiepingen, een badkamer met binnentuin en een gigantisch balkon met uitzicht over de jungle van Colombia. Maar ook de junior suite en de suites met uitzicht over de rivier zijn mooi gelegen. Bovendien heeft Calanoa jungle lodge ook een boomhut met twee privékamers.
Tijdens je verblijf zijn alle maaltijden inclusief. Dagelijks krijg je dan ook een heerlijk ontbijt, lunch en diner voorgeschoteld. Het team wat in de keuken staat werkt met lokale ingrediënten en een inheemse bereidingswijze.
Ook kun je elke dag twee excursies uitzoeken, welke inclusief zijn bij je verblijf. Super fijn, omdat je op die manier niet na hoeft te denken over extra uitgaven. Je krijgt een lijst met opties en bespreekt je programma met het personeel. Op die manier is je bezoek helemaal op maat gemaakt.

Ben je in de buurt van Barranquila in Colombia en op zoek naar een off the beaten track bestemming? Ankua Eco Hotel is één van de eerste duurzame bestemmingen in de provincie Atlantico in Colombia. Een geheel andere Caribische wereld, met kleine dorpjes, vruchtbare valleien en boerderijen.
Het boutique hotel wordt omringd door 20 hectare vruchtbare grond met talloze groenten- en fruitplantages, meertjes en een boerderij, vlakbij het dorpje Usiacuri in Colombia. Een fijne plek om op te nemen als je op doorreis bent van Cartagena naar de provincies Magdalena (hoofdstad Santa Marta) en La Guajira. Je komt hier helemaal tot rust, terwijl je opgaat in het alledaagse Colombiaanse leven.
Ankua Eco Hotel heeft een aantal bijzondere kamers, verspreid over een gigantisch complex. De vier beschikbare bungalows liggen op een berg en hebben de mooiste uitzichten. Of met een blik op de zonsondergang (atardecer) of zonsopkomst (amanecer). De huisjes zijn gemaakt van mooie materialen en hebben een terras met een hangmat in het verlengde, waar je met kussens en dekens heerlijk in kunt vertoeven. Binnen is het ruim en het kingsize bed is niet alleen megagroot maar ligt ook nog eens heerlijk. En vanuit je bed kijk je door de ramen zo de vallei in. Op het terras bevindt zich een buitendouche, die in verbinding staat met de badkamer.
Ook zijn er twee suites: De bergsuite en de boomhut suite. Zelf verbleef ik één nacht in de zonsopgang bungalow en één nacht in de boomhut. Het bijzondere aan deze boomhut suite is het terras met jacuzzi. Heerlijk om overdag in af te koelen.

Ankua Eco hotel Usiacuri Colombia heeft een restaurant waar je drie keer per dag simpel maar lekker kunt eten. En alle maaltijden zijn inclusief. De gerechten bestaan uit seizoensgebonden producten en 80% van wat er op je bord ligt komt direct uit de omliggende 14 hectare grond.
Ankua Eco lodge laat je kennismaken met het plattelandsleven van Colombia. Je kunt leren over ecosystemen, landbouwtechnieken en het leven op de boerderij door op pad te gaan met een Colombiaanse boer. Mompox has many pretty boutique hotels and bed & breakfasts. You will be surprised about the world behind the closed doors. Most places have beautiful inner gardens filled with flowers and greenery, and large rooms with high ceilings. And the owners are very friendly and helpful. My favorites places to stay are Portal de la Marquesa, located at the boulevard and Boutique hotel Bioma because of their spacious rooms and lovely atmosphere. Both of them have a swimming pool and Bioma has a nice roof terrace. La Casa Amarilla en Casa Verde Albarrada are a bit more basic but convenient as well.

There is no other city in Colombia where you will find more beautiful boutique hotels than in Cartagena. Een eigen huis op een privé eiland? Het kan op de Islas del Rosario, een eilandenarchipel vóór de kust van Cartagena in Colombia. Op Oceanario, een van de Rosario eilanden vind je namelijk Casa Eden: Een groot huis, omringd door de Caribische zee, met alleen dolfijnen, haaien, zeeschildpadden en talloze pelikanen als buren.
Casa Eden bestaat uit een immense woonkamer, 4 slaapkamers, een grote keuken en leuke eetkamer waar de golven tegenaan klotsen. Bijzonder is het dat je overal rondom het huis terrassen hebt, van waaruit je zo de zee inspringt. Bovendien kijk je vanuit de hangmatten en ligstoelen urenlang uit naar de talloze vogels die om je heen vliegen. Je kunt zelf koken of tegen een extra bedrag gebruik maken van de kookkunsten van een lokale eilandbewoner die dagelijks drie maaltijden voor je klaarmaakt.
Rondom het huis kun je snorkelen, kajakken of een bezoek brengen aan het naastgelegen dolfinarium: Het Oceanario. Na sluitingstijd, wat al om 13.30 uur is, heb je het hele terrein voor jezelf. Je loopt in alle rust rond en maakt kennis met de dolfijnen, haaien, schildpadden, roggen, vinvissen en talloze vogels die hier rond voedertijd massaal neerstrijken. De dieren leven in de open Caribische zee en worden goed verzorgd. Allemaal zijn ze in gevangenschap geboren. Goed om te weten alvorens je een bezoek brengt.

In Bogotá vind je talloze hotels. Goed om daarom van tevoren te bedenken welke bezienswaardigheden je tijdens je verblijf allemaal wilt bezoeken want Bogotá is groot. Ben je op zoek naar een centraal gelegen hotel in Bogotá? Boek dan een kamer in Tequendama Suites. Dit grootse en klassieke hotel in Bogota is niet meer weg te denken uit het straatbeeld en gaat al flink wat jaren mee. Je beleeft hier dan ook het ultieme stadsgevoel.
Tequendama Suites ligt tegenover het Nationale Museum en je loopt al binnen een half uurtje over de Carrera 7 naar de centrale Plaza Bolivar of kabelbaan Monserrate. Bovendien bevind je je vlakbij de grote wegen, waardoor je je binnen no-time naar wijken als Chapinero en de Zona Rosa verplaatst. Zorg dat je een kamer op een van de hoogste verdiepingen boekt. Zelf sliep ik op de 19e verdieping en het uitzicht was fenomenaal.
Benieuwd naar Bogotá? Bogotá is een stad die ik bijna jaarlijks bezoek. Het is de hoofdstad van Colombia en voor veel reizigers een eerste kennismaking met het land. Where to stay in Colombia? Like any other country, Colombia has so many beautiful hotels. For both work and personal trips, I visited Colombia dozens of times and stayed at the most beautiful places. When I travel by myself, I always look out for smaller scale hotels with beautiful interiors, a nice atmosphere and setting. In addition, I like to support the locals and love a sustainable approach around a hotel. I always spend a lot of time researching, before I book my stay. In this article I will tell you more about my favorite places to stay in Colombia: The best boutique hotels and unique places to stay sorted by city and region in Colombia.
In the heart of the Risaralda Valley, lies Sazagua Boutique Hotel, with so much attention to design, service and detail. Here you can completely unwind in your own little paradise and be at the best places in the coffee region in no time. Sazagua Boutique Hotel is located in a tropical garden, surrounded by flowers and hummingbirds, near Pereira in Colombia. The former finca has been transformed into a boutique hotel with 18 completely different rooms, spread over the main building and a number of lodges on the grounds.
Each room at Sazagua Boutique Hotel is unique, designed by Colombian architect Marcelo Villegas, who is known for his designs with guadua (a species of bamboo). All the rooms at Sazagua are special and beautiful, but the very best for me is the Masinga Lodge. Masinga Lodge consists of several cottages: A bedroom, a living room, a Turkish bath and an entrance with two bathrooms. The lodge is surrounded by mighty jungle trees and water with carp in it. A highlight is the private jacuzzi, which is also illuminated in the evening. Believe me, you never want to leave this room anymore.

The property includes a spa where you can go for traditional treatments (don’t forget the coffee spa treatment), a nice pool and a restaurant where you enjoy high-end dishes. And in the evening, the grounds are fairily lit! Sazagua Boutique hotel is only 10 kilometers away from Pereira airport and a perfect place to discover the coffee region in Colombia.

El Nido del Condor is an ecolodge, located on a mountain, between two gorges in the Colombian coffee region. Therefore it is also called an island in the mountains. Special is it that this ecolodge can only be reached by cable car. From the road, where you leave your car, you enter a small gondola that takes you to the other side of the gorge, within 12 minutes.
El Nido del Condor is so breathtaking that there are almost no words for. The location on a mountain, completely surrounded by avocado plantations, flowers and birds, the high-end architecture and the amazing views, make this a place you only encounter in your dreams. And when you think it can’t get any more beautiful, there are also condors flying around.
El Nido del Condor ecolodge has 5 rooms of 72m2 each. And from everything you can see that the owner, Jaime Botero, is an architect. The room, in the shape of a tent, is beautifully decorated with high end materials and everything has been thought about. Colors are soft and nice and even the most nondescript hotel room elements are stylish here. The room includes a large bed, from which you have an amazing view of the canyon. On the perfect balcony you take a seat and enjoy the surroundings. And while taking a shower, you look out through the open window over the valley.
El Nido del Condor has a restaurant where delicious meals are served. There are different hiking trails around the property and plenty of activities to do in the surroundings. Save money and time because El Nido del Condor is a place to never forget!

Then you want to spend the night at Playa Koralia, located on the Caribbean coast of Colombia, at the foot of the magical Sierra Nevada mountain range. You will find luxury and simplicity together here, because everything is about the connection with nature. Barefoot luxury, as they describe it themselves. Do you like being surrounded by nature and birds? Then you want to spend the night in Awatawaa Ecolodge in La Guajira in Colombia. Awatawaa Ecolodge is located on a small peninsula with the Caribbean Sea on one side and the Cienaga de Mababita on the other, a lagoon where numerous bird species, including flamingos, gather due to the large amount of fish. From your bungalow you walk straight into the sea, while you are surrounded by countless pelicans, herons, ibises and crabs.
Awatawaa Ecolodge has 6 bungalows, all located directly on the beach. The houses are made of wood and have a nice terrace where you can relax in one of the beanbags or chairs. The beds are great and the bathroom in spacious, nice and in the open-air. Just keep in mind that there is no light (but there is electricity), meaning you have to work with candles and flashlights in the evening. Something that adds to the experience in my opinion.

You can go for endless birdwatching around the lodge. Something I couldn’t stop doing. But you can also explore La Guajira, an interesting province with three national parks and many indigenous communities. The team can help you with tours such as a sailing trip through the flamingo reserve and a visit to a indigenous Wayuu community. Both very recommended. Are you near Barranquila in Colombia and looking for an off the beaten track destination? Ankua Eco Hotel is one of the first sustainable hotels in the province of Atlantico Colombia. Inside it is spacious and the king-size bed is not only mega but also really wonderful. From your bed you look straight into the valley through the windows. There is an outdoor shower on the terrace, which is also connected to the bathroom.
There are also two suites: The mountain suite and the treehouse suite. I myself stayed one night in the sunrise bungalow and one night in the tree house. The special thing about this treehouse suite is the terrace with jacuzzi. Great for cooling off during the day.

Mompox has many pretty boutique hotels and bed & breakfasts. You will be surprised about the world behind the closed doors. Most places have beautiful inner gardens filled with flowers and greenery, and large rooms with high ceilings. And the owners are very friendly and helpful. My favorites places to stay are Portal de la Marquesa, located at the boulevard and Boutique hotel Bioma because of their spacious rooms and lovely atmosphere. Both of them have a swimming pool and Bioma has a nice roof terrace. La Casa Amarilla en Casa Verde Albarrada are a bit more basic but convenient as well.

It is also possible to visit the Oceanarium, next door. After closing time, wich is already at 1 pm, you have the entire site to yourself. You can stroll around and meet the dolphins, sharks, turtles, rays, fin whales and countless birds that flock here around feeding time. The animals live in the open Caribbean Sea and are well cared for. Besides that, they were all born in captivity. Important things to know before your visit.

Where to stay in Colombia? Like any other country, Colombia has so many beautiful hotels. For both work and personal trips, I visited Colombia dozens of times and stayed at the most beautiful places. When I travel by myself, I always look out for smaller scale hotels with beautiful interiors, a nice atmosphere and setting. In addition, I like to support the locals and love a sustainable approach around a hotel. I always spend a lot of time researching, before I book my stay. In this article I will tell you more about my favorite places to stay in Colombia: The best boutique hotels and unique places to stay sorted by city and region in Colombia.
In the heart of the Risaralda Valley, lies Sazagua Boutique Hotel, with so much attention to design, service and detail. Here you can completely unwind in your own little paradise and be at the best places in the coffee region in no time. Sazagua Boutique Hotel is located in a tropical garden, surrounded by flowers and hummingbirds, near Pereira in Colombia. The former finca has been transformed into a boutique hotel with 18 completely different rooms, spread over the main building and a number of lodges on the grounds.
Each room at Sazagua Boutique Hotel is unique, designed by Colombian architect Marcelo Villegas, who is known for his designs with guadua (a species of bamboo). All the rooms at Sazagua are special and beautiful, but the very best for me is the Masinga Lodge. Masinga Lodge consists of several cottages: A bedroom, a living room, a Turkish bath and an entrance with two bathrooms. The lodge is surrounded by mighty jungle trees and water with carp in it. A highlight is the private jacuzzi, which is also illuminated in the evening. Believe me, you never want to leave this room anymore.

The property includes a spa where you can go for traditional treatments (don’t forget the coffee spa treatment), a nice pool and a restaurant where you enjoy high-end dishes. And in the evening, the grounds are fairily lit! Sazagua Boutique hotel is only 10 kilometers away from Pereira airport and a perfect place to discover the coffee region in Colombia.

El Nido del Condor is an ecolodge, located on a mountain, between two gorges in the Colombian coffee region. Therefore it is also called an island in the mountains. Special is it that this ecolodge can only be reached by cable car. From the road, where you leave your car, you enter a small gondola that takes you to the other side of the gorge, within 12 minutes.
El Nido del Condor is so breathtaking that there are almost no words for. The location on a mountain, completely surrounded by avocado plantations, flowers and birds, the high-end architecture and the amazing views, make this a place you only encounter in your dreams. And when you think it can’t get any more beautiful, there are also condors flying around.
El Nido del Condor ecolodge has 5 rooms of 72m2 each. And from everything you can see that the owner, Jaime Botero, is an architect. The room, in the shape of a tent, is beautifully decorated with high end materials and everything has been thought about. Colors are soft and nice and even the most nondescript hotel room elements are stylish here. The room includes a large bed, from which you have an amazing view of the canyon. On the perfect balcony you take a seat and enjoy the surroundings. And while taking a shower, you look out through the open window over the valley.
El Nido del Condor has a restaurant where delicious meals are served. There are different hiking trails around the property and plenty of activities to do in the surroundings. Save money and time because El Nido del Condor is a place to never forget!

Hacienda Bambusa in the Colombian coffee triangle is a place straight out of a Colombian soap opera! This traditional finca, situated on a large cocoa and avocado plantation, has been transformed into a luxury boutique hotel where you can experience the authentic atmosphere of the coffee region.

Then you want to spend the night at Playa Koralia, located on the Caribbean coast of Colombia, at the foot of the magical Sierra Nevada mountain range. This bohemian place to stay is known for its beachfront setting and eco-friendly focus, as the style and rustic design, blend perfectly with the natural surroundings.

Do you like being surrounded by nature and birds? Then you want to spend the night in Awatawaa Ecolodge in La Guajira in Colombia. Awatawaa Ecolodge is located on a small peninsula with the Caribbean Sea on one side and the Cienaga de Mababita on the other, a lagoon where numerous bird species, including flamingos, gather due to the large amount of fish. From your bungalow you walk straight into the sea, while you are surrounded by countless pelicans, herons, ibises and crabs.
Awatawaa Ecolodge has 6 bungalows, all located directly on the beach. The houses are made of wood and have a nice terrace where you can relax in one of the beanbags or chairs. The beds are great and the bathroom in spacious, nice and in the open-air. Just keep in mind that there is no light (but there is electricity), meaning you have to work with candles and flashlights in the evening. Something that adds to the experience in my opinion.

The lovely team of Awatawaa Ecolodge prepares three daily meals for you, that are served at tables on the beach. And in the evening everything is beautifully lit with torches.
You can go for endless birdwatching around the lodge. Something I couldn’t stop doing. But you can also explore La Guajira, an interesting province with three national parks and many indigenous communities. The team can help you with tours such as a sailing trip through the flamingo reserve and a visit to a indigenous Wayuu community. Both very recommended. Inside it is spacious and the king-size bed is not only mega but also really wonderful. From your bed you look straight into the valley through the windows. There is an outdoor shower on the terrace, which is also connected to the bathroom.
There are also two suites: The mountain suite and the treehouse suite. I myself stayed one night in the sunrise bungalow and one night in the tree house. The special thing about this treehouse suite is the terrace with jacuzzi. Great for cooling off during the day.

Mompox has many pretty boutique hotels and bed & breakfasts. You will be surprised about the world behind the closed doors. Most places have beautiful inner gardens filled with flowers and greenery, and large rooms with high ceilings. And the owners are very friendly and helpful. My favorites places to stay are Portal de la Marquesa, located at the boulevard and Boutique hotel Bioma because of their spacious rooms and lovely atmosphere. Both of them have a swimming pool and Bioma has a nice roof terrace. La Casa Amarilla en Casa Verde Albarrada are a bit more basic but convenient as well.

You can bring your own food or have one of the locals prepare three daily meals for you. Something that I strongly recommend. Around the house it is possible to go swimming, snorkeling and kayaking. It is also possible to visit the Oceanarium, next door. After closing time, wich is already at 1 pm, you have the entire site to yourself. You can stroll around and meet the dolphins, sharks, turtles, rays, fin whales and countless birds that flock here around feeding time. The animals live in the open Caribbean Sea and are well cared for. Besides that, they were all born in captivity. Important things to know before your visit.

El Nido del Condor is an ecolodge, located on a mountain, between two gorges in the Colombian coffee region. Therefore it is also called an island in the mountains. Special is it that this ecolodge can only be reached by cable car. From the road, where you leave your car, you enter a small gondola that takes you to the other side of the gorge, within 12 minutes.
El Nido del Condor is so breathtaking that there are almost no words for. The location on a mountain, completely surrounded by avocado plantations, flowers and birds, the high-end architecture and the amazing views, make this a place you only encounter in your dreams. And when you think it can’t get any more beautiful, there are also condors flying around.
El Nido del Condor ecolodge has 5 rooms of 72m2 each. And from everything you can see that the owner, Jaime Botero, is an architect. The room, in the shape of a tent, is beautifully decorated with high end materials and everything has been thought about. Colors are soft and nice and even the most nondescript hotel room elements are stylish here. The room includes a large bed, from which you have an amazing view of the canyon. On the perfect balcony you take a seat and enjoy the surroundings. And while taking a shower, you look out through the open window over the valley.

Then you want to spend the night at Playa Koralia, located on the Caribbean coast of Colombia, at the foot of the magical Sierra Nevada mountain range. Do you like being surrounded by nature and birds? Then you want to spend the night in Awatawaa Ecolodge in La Guajira in Colombia. Awatawaa Ecolodge is located on a small peninsula with the Caribbean Sea on one side and the Cienaga de Mababita on the other, a lagoon where numerous bird species, including flamingos, gather due to the large amount of fish. From your bungalow you walk straight into the sea, while you are surrounded by countless pelicans, herons, ibises and crabs.
Awatawaa Ecolodge has 6 bungalows, all located directly on the beach. The houses are made of wood and have a nice terrace where you can relax in one of the beanbags or chairs. The beds are great and the bathroom in spacious, nice and in the open-air. Just keep in mind that there is no light (but there is electricity), meaning you have to work with candles and flashlights in the evening. Something that adds to the experience in my opinion.

You can go for endless birdwatching around the lodge. Something I couldn’t stop doing. But you can also explore La Guajira, an interesting province with three national parks and many indigenous communities. The team can help you with tours such as a sailing trip through the flamingo reserve and a visit to a indigenous Wayuu community. Both very recommended. Are you near Barranquila in Colombia and looking for an off the beaten track destination? Ankua Eco Hotel is one of the first sustainable hotels in the province of Atlantico Colombia. Here you will find yourself in a different Caribbean world than the coast, with small villages, fertile valleys and farms.

The four available bungalows are located on a mountain and have the most beautiful views, including sunset (atardecer) or sunrise (amanecer). The houses are made of beautiful materials and have a terrace with a hammock in the extension, where you can relax with pillows and blankets. Inside it is spacious and the king-size bed is not only mega but also really wonderful. From your bed you look straight into the valley through the windows. There is an outdoor shower on the terrace, which is also connected to the bathroom.
There are also two suites: The mountain suite and the treehouse suite. I myself stayed one night in the sunrise bungalow and one night in the tree house. The special thing about this treehouse suite is the terrace with jacuzzi. Great for cooling off during the day.

Mompox has many pretty boutique hotels and bed & breakfasts. You will be surprised about the world behind the closed doors. Most places have beautiful inner gardens filled with flowers and greenery, and large rooms with high ceilings. And the owners are very friendly and helpful. My favorites places to stay are Portal de la Marquesa, located at the boulevard and Boutique hotel Bioma because of their spacious rooms and lovely atmosphere. Both of them have a swimming pool and Bioma has a nice roof terrace. La Casa Amarilla en Casa Verde Albarrada are a bit more basic but convenient as well.

You can bring your own food or have one of the locals prepare three daily meals for you. Something that I strongly recommend. Around the house it is possible to go swimming, snorkeling and kayaking. It is also possible to visit the Oceanarium, next door. After closing time, wich is already at 1 pm, you have the entire site to yourself. You can stroll around and meet the dolphins, sharks, turtles, rays, fin whales and countless birds that flock here around feeding time. The animals live in the open Caribbean Sea and are well cared for. Besides that, they were all born in captivity. Important things to know before your visit.
