Welcome to Hamadryade Lodge Ecuador
As soon as you take the path up the mountain to Hamadryade Lodge Ecuador, you know that you are going to end up in a beautiful place. Once at the top, you walk to the entrance of the complex via a fountain, where you have a panoramic view of the lush vegetation with flowers and a swimming pool.
Hamadryade Lodge Ecuador is situated in a tropical environment. The main building consists of a reception and a restaurant, where daily meals are served. A staircase connects the restaurant with a lower area where you will find a swimming pool and relaxation area with a campfire.
There are four luxury bungalows, a family bungalow and three glamping sites, which are spread throughout the complex. If you walk a little further into the jungle, you will arrive at a spa, which consists of different areas. And everything is connected by walking paths, surrounded by flowers, plants and tall bamboo.

The bungalows
Four luxury bungalows and the family bungalow, consisting of two floors, are located along the walking paths near the reception. The three glamping sites are located in the lower part and can be reached by stairs. I stayed in the Kichwa suite, a spacious and fully-equipped room with a comfortable bed.
The suites have a large balcony and outdoor terrace with views over the surroundings. The beautiful materials and colors immediately make you feel completely calm. There is also a lot of attention to detail: The ceiling contains murals and there are stylish pre-Columbian statues. A room you don’t want to leave.
The restaurant
In the restaurant of Hamadryade Lodge Ecuador you can enjoy daily delicious meals and you don’t want to miss this. Not only is it convenient, as you will find yourself in a remote place, but also because the ladies in the kitchen prepare something special again and again.
The meals are prepared with local ingredients but with a French twist. Think about ceviche made of palm, stuffed tomatoes, broccoli couscous and the most delicious desserts. You can order à la carte or enjoy a three-course menu. I can’t recommend it more!

What to do around Hamadryade Lodge Ecuador
Hamadryade Lodge Ecuador offers a variety of activities: From relaxing massages, tubing on one of the rivers, visiting indigenous communities to taking beautiful walks with a local guide. It will be difficult to choose. Ask the ladies at the front desk for some recommendations and I’m sure they will come up with a great program. These are some tips for tours that I was able to experience myself.
Go tubing
Tubing is one of those activities that I can’t get enough of. There is nothing better than floating in a tube on the river, while enjoying the jungle environment around you.
With a local guide you drive to the Rio Misahuallí, located near the village of the same name. Here you get on a tube and float about an hour on the river. It is a nice trip, with a bit of adrenaline once in a while, when there is a faster current. The team of guides keeps a close eye on you and helps whenever necessary, making it even more relaxed. Afterwards, an amazing local lunch awaits you with delicious fish, yucca, potatoes, fried banana and local vegetables.
Visit a local Kichwa communit
You can combine tubing, with a visit to a local community and that is definitely worth it. The Misahuallí area has 42 communities of the Wuaorani and Kichwa people, and a number of them have opened their doors to visitors. We visit the community Awarina, which means new generation, where we are welcomed with local music and dance and receive an explanation about the process of making chicha, accompanied by a ceremony. Chicha is a local drink made from fermented yucca.
Afterwards the family gives us a tour of the complex and we get to meet a shaman. Touristy? Of course, except that you are one of the few visitors here. Moreover, it is a great way to take a look into the lives of the people in Napo Province. On top of that you also support the local community with your visit.
Discover Laguna Kawana
Another activity that you can book at Hamadryade Lodge Ecuador is the Laguna Kawana reserve. Here you get on a canoe and sail through the natural reserve, where caimans, monkeys, birds and gigantic fish, the paiche, live. This fish, which can grow up to 3 meters long and weigh up to 250 kilos, is one of the largest fish in the world that lives in fresh water. It is pretty impressive to observe, especially when it moves out of the water.
Halfway through the canoe trip, you will stop at an island for a short walk. And there are great chances you’ll encounter monkeys here. These animals have been rescued and taken care of and now live protected in the semi-wild.
Relax in de spa
Hamadryade Lodge Ecuador is known for its spa and yoga center and therefore a famous place for retreats. The spa complex is located in the jungle with a massage room, jacuzzi, temazcal – an indigenous sauna – and a room, where ceremonies are given, including Ayahuasca. Make sure to reserve on time, because every treatment requires the necessary preparation and it is a popular place.

Best time to visit the Amazon
The area around Tena in Ecuador can be visited all year round. Due to its location on the equator, Ecuador has a constant climate. The average temperature in the jungle is around 28 degrees, but it usually feels warmer and more humid, especially when the sun is shining. It cools down nicely in the evening. There is a chance of rain all year round, which is why it is so green. The rainy season runs from December to June and ensures pleasant temperatures. The dry season runs from July to November with higher temperatures but still a chance of rain.
