Ecocamp Patagonia dome hotel has several domes that are spread over the mountain in Torres del Paine. There are superior domes, consisting of 23m2 with their own compost toilet, shower including hot water, electricity and a small propane heater. Do you want more luxury? Each tour is accompanied by a professional bilingual guide and a driver. On average, there is one guide for every ten people, so groups are small. In the morning you will meet your guide and at the end of the day you will discuss your program for the next day during the briefing. Below you will find an overview of a number of excursions that I selected myself.
Base Torres
This is the most famous hike and therefore also the most popular, because it leads to the top of the Base Torres, or the base of the tower. This walk is part of the W and is an absolute highlight. Where in many cases you lose a lot of time to travel to the starting point of the hike, from Ecocamp Patagonia you can easily do this hike in one day. However, this trail is also the most difficult and therefore certainly not for everyone. It is a walk of between 4 and 5 hours up the mountain, of which 90% is climbing and the last part is extremely steep. Afterwards, you walk exactly the same way back for 4 hours. But the moment of reaching the Torres is truly unforgettable.
French Valley – Torres del Paine
The hike to the French Valley is also part of the famous W trek in Torres del Paine. A bus takes you to the port of Pudeto, where you get on a boat to Paine Grande. From here you walk in about 2.5 hours to the beginning of the French valley, a fairly easy trail with beautiful views of Lake Nordenskjöld along the way. Then you walk through forests and rivers for about 2.5 kilometers steeply up the mountain. The first glaciers can be seen already within 10 minutes so it is worth the effort. Lookout Frances is the first viewpoint. Do you energy left? Then you can continue to Mirador Británico, a bit further up the mountain. Afterwards you walk exactly the same way back, towards the boat and then Ecocamp Patagonia dome hotel in Torres del Paine. A long, but beautiful day.
Miradores
This is a wonderful tour that is suitable for anyone with a normal level of fitness. During this tour you will drive through the National Park and stop at several viewpoints to observe the massif and its surrounding lakes. You will learn about the area and its unique flora and fauna. You will also visit the Salto Grande waterfall and take a walk to Los Cuernos, offering views of the peaks of the Cuernos Mountains and Nordenskjöld Lake. This walk takes a total of 1.5 hours and is completely flat. Another hike is going to Mirador Condor, a 45-minute walk up the mountain. At the top you have a 360-degree view of the Torres del Paine National Park. Then you walk down the mountain on the other side. An unforgettable day showing you the different sides of the park.
It is also possible to spend the day at a Patagonian estancia with a traditional BBQ and horseback riding, go out to spot pumas, take walks along lakes and visit the Glacier Grey. Ecocamp Patagonia dome hotel offers a program every day with tours in Torres del Paine from easy to difficult, varying per season.
Tailor made tour
Because we were the only ones for a tour and the weather on that side of the park was not good, we were able to make a tailor-made excursion, something I can highly recommend. We went out with guide Eduardo to spot pumas along the Cañadon Macho trail. Unfortunately we did not see any pumas but a lot of guanacos. We also visited Laguna Azul with countless water birds and the Cascada Paine waterfall. If you have special interests, definitely try to plan a tailor-made tour.
