Visit Molino de la Primavera
In the vicinity of Villa de Leyva you can find numerous old water mills. And one of the prettiest is the Molino de la Primavera. This former mill was built in the 17th century and worked for grinding wheat and corn grains, for over 300 years.
Today it is a small museum that you can visit. But the real reason for your visit is the idyllic location, situated in a green valley called Valle Escondido, with great views. You feel like you are far away from civilization and you want nothing more than to stay here for the rest of your life.
Molino de la Primavera is located within driving distance from Hichatana & Zuetana country house and hotel in the Valle Escondido, between Gachantivá and Villa de Leyva, 10 km from the city center of Santa Sofia.
Admire fossils at the Museo el Fosil
The area around Villa de Leyva, is known for its archaeological treasures and fossils. A visit to the fossil museum is therefore not to be missed. To learn more about the history and to be amazed by all these finds. Highlight of your visit is probably the fossil of the kronosaurus, a gigantic marine reptile of almost 10 meters, the only one in the world. In addition, you will find countless other smaller and larger fossils.
It is remarkable that this museum is an initiative of the local population itself. For years fossils were stolen, sold illegally and taken abroad. The local population wanted to change this by collecting, managing and exhibiting the finds themselves.
